Chertovo Gorodishche natural boundary, Protected archaeological site in Sosensky, Russia.

The stone formations of Chertovo Gorodishche rise above the landscape, featuring natural gray quartz sandstone outcrops along the Chertovskaya River banks.

Archaeological excavations revealed that hunter communities established settlements at this location during the Mesolithic period, approximately 10,000 years ago.

The site contains ancient ritual spaces where Eastern Baltic tribes performed ceremonies, as indicated by stone formations with specific indentations.

The National Park Ugra maintains dedicated walking paths through Chertovo Gorodishche, with digital audio guides available for download before visits.

Within its 1.5 hectares, botanists have documented over 220 vascular plant species, including eight varieties protected in the Kaluga region.
