Tropinin and Moscow Artists of His Time Museum, Portrait art museum in Yakimanka District, Russia.
Tropinin and Moscow Artists of His Time Museum is located in a preserved 19th-century estate building in Yakimanka District. The building holds more than 250 artworks including portraits, landscapes, and decorative arts created by Moscow painters from that era.
The estate originated as a private residence for Moscow merchants in the early 1800s. In 1969 Felix Vishnevsky transformed it into a public museum by donating his personal collection of Russian paintings to create the institution.
The collection shows portraits of people from different social classes of 19th-century Moscow, from nobles to merchants and craftspeople. The paintings reflect the diversity of the city's society and the lives of ordinary people alongside the wealthy.
The museum is open from Thursday through Sunday, with later closing times on Thursdays. Guided tours in multiple languages are available to help visitors explore the collection.
The house preserves an original cast-iron staircase and wooden structures that reflect the way Moscow homes were built in the early 1800s. Visitors can see the craftsmanship and construction methods that were typical of residential buildings from that period.
