The fortification stands at the intersection of the Ural River, featuring stone walls constructed according to 18th-century military engineering principles.
Established in 1735 under Ivan Kirilov's expedition, the fortress served as a crucial defense point during the Russian colonization of the Southern Ural region.
The fortress walls witnessed the presence of Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko, who spent time there during his exile between 1847 and 1848.
Visitors can access the fortress grounds throughout the year, with guided tours available through the local historical society office in central Orsk.
The fortress structure incorporates local jasper stone, a semi-precious mineral that the Orsk region became known for in later industrial development.
