The pentagonal military structure stands at the entrance of Kaliningrad Bay, featuring high stone walls and defensive bastions on each corner point.
Swedish forces initiated the construction of the fortress in 1625, with Prussians completing the fortification works in 1670 during the post-Thirty Years War period.
The fortress contains a Naval Museum that presents collections of maritime artifacts, military equipment, and documents related to the Baltic Fleet operations.
Visitors can access the fortress daily from 10:00 to 18:00, with guided tours available in Russian and German languages through advance reservation.
The fortress maintained its military function continuously from 1625 to 1945, serving under Prussian, German, and Russian forces throughout its operational history.
