Воскресенский собор

The Resurrection Cathedral is an Orthodox cathedral in Starocherkassk featuring nine domes and a separate bell tower nearby. The building displays classical Orthodox architecture with gilded details and extensive decorative elements throughout its interior.

Built between 1706 and 1719 with support from Peter the Great, it was the first stone church in the Don region. Its construction marked a turning point for religious and urban development in southeastern Russia.

The name refers to the Resurrection of Christ and shapes the religious identity of the place. The gilded iconostasis inside shows how the Orthodox faith honors saints, and visitors notice it as the focal point of the interior decoration.

The cathedral is open to visitors and regularly holds services, with modest dress expected when entering. Check visit times in advance since the church may be unavailable during liturgical events.

Large chains are displayed outside, traditionally linked to Cossack leader Stepan Razin before his execution according to local accounts. These artifacts tell a dramatic story from the region's past that remains woven into the place itself.
