Tigireksky Nature Reserve, Nature reserve in Altai Krai, Russia
The reserve spans 41,505 hectares of mountains, forests, and meadows across three sections: Beloresky, Khanharinsky, and Tigireksky, with elevations reaching 2,015 meters.
The Russian government established Tigireksky Nature Reserve on December 4, 1999, making it one of the newest protected territories in the Altai-Sayan mountain region.
The reserve contains remnants of the Kolyvano-Kuznetsk defensive line and a former Cossack fortress from the 17th century in the village of Tigirek.
Visitors must obtain special permits to access the protected zones and can only camp at designated paid sites while following strict conservation regulations.
The reserve marks the transition zone between the Altai-Sayan mountain systems and the broad steppes of Kazakhstan and Siberia, containing plant species from the Tertiary period.
