Aushkul Lake

Aushkul Lake sits near Starobairamgulovo village and features clear water with a small heart-shaped island in its center. The shoreline is fringed with reeds, and the water remains clean and relatively undisturbed.

The lake gained protection as a natural monument of Russia and has kept this status across different periods of Russian rule. This designation ensures the site and its surroundings remain protected from major development.

The Aushtau Mountain on the western shore holds a sacred water source called Aulia that matters deeply to Bashkir Muslims. People visit to collect water from this spring, and the site remains an active place of spiritual practice today.

Fishing for pike is possible here, and camping along the shore is free and straightforward. Spring through autumn offers the best visiting conditions, with pleasant weather and easy access to the shoreline.

The lake bottom and shores hold colorful jasper stones that pilgrims gather and carry up to the mountain peak following local tradition. This practice connects visitors to a custom passed down through generations in the region.
