Monument to Peter the Great in Kronstadt, Bronze sculpture in Petrovsky Park, Kronstadt, Russia
The Monument to Peter the Great in Kronstadt is a bronze sculpture standing on a tall pedestal in Petrovsky Park. The entire structure reaches about 10 meters in height and shows the figure of the tsar standing upright.
The sculpture was completed between 1841 and 1842 by French sculptor Napoleon Jacques. It is the second monument dedicated to Peter I in the Saint Petersburg region.
The bronze reliefs on the pedestal show major naval victories and tell the story of Russia's rise as a sea power. You can examine these details while visiting and understand how important these events were for the city.
You can reach the monument by taking regular ferry services from Saint Petersburg to Kronstadt. The site is open throughout the year for visitors.
During the Siege of Leningrad, local residents removed the statue from its pedestal and buried it in a nearby pit to protect it. The sculpture was later returned to its original location.
