Princess Nora bint Abdul Rahman University, Women's higher education institution in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
Princess Nora bint Abdul Rahman University is a women's higher education institution in Riyadh with capacity for up to 60,000 students. The site extends over 13 million square meters and comprises around 600 buildings connected by an automated transport system.
The institution was founded in 1970 as Riyadh University for Women and has since provided higher education for women in the kingdom. King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz granted the institution its current name in 2008, expanding its role in national education.
The institution carries the name of Noura bint Abdul Rahman, the elder sister of King Abdulaziz and daughter of the last emir of the Second Saudi State. The campus includes specialized zones for sciences, medicine, and humanities, used exclusively by female students and faculty members.
The site features an automated transport system with an 11.5-kilometer (7.1-mile) guideway connecting different sections of the campus. The system makes movement between buildings easier and reduces walking time across the expansive grounds significantly.
The central library holds over 2 million volumes in Arabic and English, with space for up to 5 million books. The collections cover medical, scientific, and humanities disciplines and continue to grow over time.
