Hultaby slott, Medieval castle ruins in Vetlanda Municipality, Sweden

The stone ruins stand on a promontory at the mouth of Emån River, offering views over Norrajön lake and the surrounding landscape.

Built in the mid-13th century, the castle served as residence for Erengisle Sunesson Bååt, a Swedish nobleman who held the title of Jarl of Orkney Islands.

Archaeological investigations revealed nineteen wooden house foundations around the main building, indicating a substantial medieval settlement at the site.

Visitors can access the ruins through a short walk from the parking area and use the lakeside picnic tables during their exploration.

The site features Sweden's oldest ceremonial stairway, reconstructed in 1934 using original slate materials discovered during excavations.
