Dragsmark Abbey, Medieval monastery ruins in Uddevalla Municipality, Sweden
The stone ruins of Dragsmark Abbey stand near a fjord, with remaining walls showing the layout of a church measuring 20 by 10 meters.
Founded before 1260 under King Håkon Håkonsson's patronage, the Premonstratensian monastery operated until 1519 when it became the first Norwegian monastery to undergo secularization.
The monastery maintained a school and contributed to education in medieval Scandinavia through its religious teachings and scholarly activities.
Located at coordinates 58.251875, 11.55126, the archaeological site contains visible foundations of the church, sacristy, and chapter house open for examination.
The stones from the deteriorating abbey structures were repurposed in 1610 for the construction of Båhus Fortress, transforming religious architecture into military defense.
