Theater Confidencen, Palace theatre at Ulriksdal Palace, Solna, Sweden.
Theater Confidencen is a palace theater on the grounds of Ulriksdal Palace in Solna, Sweden, with original Rococo interiors dating from the 18th century and around 200 seats. The hall still contains its original stage machinery, painted walls, and period furnishings.
Queen Lovisa Ulrika had the former stables of Ulriksdal Palace converted into a theater in 1753, with architect Carl Fredrik Adelcrantz leading the work. The building fell into disuse after the queen's death but was later restored and reopened for cultural use in the 20th century.
Every summer, the venue hosts opera, concerts, and plays in the original hall, much as it did when the Swedish royal court gathered here. The wall paintings and stage machinery from the 18th century are still in place and visible during performances and tours.
Guided tours are available from May through September and let visitors explore the historic rooms and stage area. In summer, live performances are also scheduled in the hall, so booking ahead is a good idea.
The central salon contains a table called 'table a confidence', where food was lifted from below so the royal family could dine without any servants in the room. The mechanism is still in the salon and can be seen during a visit to the building.
