Sandö Bridge

The Sandö Bridge extends 811 meters across the water, featuring a main span of 264 meters and rising 40 meters above the waterline.

During construction in 1939, the bridge's arch formwork collapsed in one of Sweden's most severe workplace accidents, leading to 18 worker casualties.

The bridge structure became such an essential symbol for the region that Kramfors Municipality incorporated a bridge design into their official coat of arms.

The reinforced concrete bridge, 10 meters wide, served as part of the main European route E4 until 1997, connecting the communities of Lunde and Klockestrand.

When completed in 1943, the structure held the world record for the longest single-span concrete arch bridge, demonstrating Swedish engineering capabilities.
