Harpsund, Prime Minister's retreat in Flen Municipality, Sweden.
Harpsund is a government estate in Flen Municipality comprising fourteen buildings spread across 1,650 hectares along Harpsund Bay. The compound serves as a retreat and meeting venue for the Prime Minister and domestic or foreign guests.
The first records of the estate date to 1380, when Bo Jonsson obtained the land through an exchange. The present main building arose in 1914, replacing earlier structures on the same plot.
The main residence follows Carolean design principles with symmetrical facades and traditional Swedish wooden details from the late 1600s. State guests and diplomatic delegations gather here for conversations away from the capital's formal settings.
The estate sits in Södermanland County, roughly an hour and a half by car southwest of Stockholm along the bay. Because it hosts government functions, public access remains limited except during special occasions.
During their stay, guests traditionally take part in a rowing trip aboard the Harpsundsekan, a small wooden boat on the adjacent waters. This tradition blends formal diplomacy with Swedish outdoor culture and creates a relaxed atmosphere for conversations.
