Maltesholm Castle

Maltesholm is a castle near Kristianstad set in the Scanian landscape with three stories of brick construction. A wide protective moat surrounds it, while a staircase tower and stepped gables form its distinctive outline.

The castle was built between 1635 and 1638 by High Constable Malte Juel to establish his position in the region. It later underwent major reconstruction that finished in 1780 under Hans Ramel's direction.

The castle shows different architectural periods blending together in its structure. Renaissance details sit alongside later classical additions that were made centuries afterward.

The privately inhabited castle can be explored from the outside, and the surrounding park with its mature trees invites walking. Plan time to wander the grounds, especially when trees are in full foliage.

A long stone access road connects the castle to the outside world, built over many years with help from nearby villages. This pathway reflects how the estate was woven into the local community's daily life.
