Kosterhavet National Park

The park extends across 388 square kilometers of marine environment, featuring deep fjords, rocky shores, and underwater meadows near the Koster Islands.

Established in September 2009, Kosterhavet became Sweden's first marine national park, marking a milestone in the country's marine conservation efforts.

Local fishing communities maintain traditional practices within the park, following specific regulations for northern prawn and Norwegian lobster catches.

Visitors can access the park through Strömstad, with options for hiking, paddling, diving, and swimming throughout designated areas of the reserve.

The waters contain over 6,000 marine species, including 200 species exclusive to Sweden, thriving in the deep Kosterfjord's cold, saline conditions.
