Uppsala Castle

Uppsala Castle is a pink-colored building perched on a hilltop that houses two museums, administrative offices, and the governor's residence. The complex contains art galleries, historical collections, and various exhibition spaces throughout its structure.

King Gustav Vasa ordered the construction of the castle in 1549 as a military fortification, creating one of northern Europe's most advanced structures of its time. The building was expanded and modified over centuries to serve as a royal residence and administrative center.

The art museum within the castle showcases works by Swedish and international artists across multiple gallery spaces. The collections give visitors insight into different artistic styles and periods.

Visitors can take guided tours through the castle and explore the surroundings from its various staircases and levels. Wearing comfortable shoes is recommended, and it's best to allow plenty of time since the building spans multiple levels and extensive areas.

The rooftop walk of the castle offers panoramic views across Uppsala and the surrounding landscape. The historical cellars beneath the building house a restaurant where visitors can dine in a distinctive historical setting.
