Pumphuset, Working life museum in Uppsala, Sweden

Pumphuset is a working life museum housed in a historic brick waterworks building on Munkgatan in Uppsala, Sweden. The structure features large windows and thick walls, and inside there are exhibition areas, a meeting space, and a restaurant that can host groups of visitors.

Pumphuset was built in 1875 as Uppsala's first waterworks, designed by architect Adrian Crispin Peterson. It supplied the city with water until 1968, when it was taken out of service and eventually converted into a museum.

Inside Pumphuset, original machines are still on display, including water turbines, electric pumps, and pressure clocks. These pieces of equipment stand close enough to touch, giving a direct sense of the labor and craft behind running a city's water supply.

Pumphuset is easy to reach on foot and is accessible for wheelchair users, with adapted restrooms available inside. It opens mainly on Sundays and during special events, so it is worth checking the schedule before planning a visit.

Pumphuset offers a digital guide in Swedish, English, and Arabic, which reflects the range of communities the museum aims to reach today. Admission is also free, so there is no cost barrier for any of those groups.
