Stockholm archipelago

The Stockholm archipelago is a vast coastal system of roughly 30,000 islands, islets, and rocks extending about 80 kilometers east from the city into the Baltic Sea. The landscape consists of rocky outcrops, dense forests, and small fishing villages scattered among the waterways.

The water gradually shifts from nearly fresh conditions close to Stockholm to increasingly salty conditions toward the outer islands. This salinity gradient creates distinct marine environments that support different fish species across the archipelago.
