Oscarsteatern, Art Nouveau theater in central Stockholm, Sweden
Oscarsteatern is a theater building in Art Nouveau style located in central Stockholm with white stucco walls and gilded ornaments. The main hall accommodates approximately 947 spectators across multiple seating levels and displays the characteristic architecture of this period.
Architect Axel Anderberg designed the building and it was completed in 1906. During the 1970s, a comprehensive restoration brought significant improvements to the structure and facilities.
The theater is named after King Oscar II and serves today as a gathering place for people attending musicals and theatrical performances. Visitors can admire the ornate decoration while spending time in its elegant spaces.
The theater is located at Kungsgatan 63 in the city center and is easy to reach. The in-house Tredje Raden restaurant offers refreshments and dining with views overlooking the street.
The theater was named after King Oscar II, a reigning monarch of that time. This naming choice reflects the importance the building held for Swedish society at its opening.
