Runestones at Aspa, Archaeological site with runestones in Runtuna, Sweden

The site contains four runestones positioned where an ancient road intersects with a stream, marking a historically significant crossing point.

During medieval times, Aspa served as the location of the local thing assembly, where newly elected Swedish kings would travel during their Eriksgata journey.

The inscriptions on these stones combine serpentine patterns with runic text, demonstrating the writing and artistic techniques of Viking Age craftsmen.

Visitors can find the runestones 6 kilometers north of Runtuna in Södermanland, with one stone measuring 2.07 meters in height.

The Sö Fv1948;289 stone represents the earliest surviving Scandinavian source mentioning the kingdom of Sweden alongside two Danish runestones.
