Salsta Castle

Salsta is a Baroque castle north of Uppsala with a two-story structure arranged around an open square, marked by two projecting corner pavilions. The building opens toward the garden side with independent wings, while the interiors feature carefully designed ceilings throughout its rooms.

The current structure was built in the 1670s in French Baroque style and replaced an earlier fortified castle dating to the 13th century. The estate passed through the hands of powerful Swedish noble families including Oxenstierna, Bielke, and Brahe over subsequent centuries.

The castle shows the marks of different noble families who lived here over the centuries through its decoration and layout. The style and furnishings show how Swedish nobility displayed their wealth and power during the Baroque period.

The castle is located north of Uppsala and opens to visitors during summer months, with guided tours available through advance booking. It is wise to check current opening times beforehand and allow enough time to explore the various rooms at a comfortable pace.
