Trelleborg Old Water Tower, Water tower in Stadsparken, Trelleborg, Sweden
Trelleborg Old Water Tower is a striking structure of red brick that rises 58 meters high and is topped with a copper spire crowned by two spheres of different sizes. The tower dominates the skyline of Stadsparken and remains visible from various points within and around the park.
The structure was designed by architect Ivar Tengbom in 1912 and supplied water to the city for many decades. It was decommissioned in 1974 when modern water systems took over this role.
The water tower stands at the heart of Stadsparken where locals and visitors gather, especially during community events and celebrations. It has become a natural meeting point where people stop for coffee and spend time in the surrounding park.
The tower is centrally located in Stadsparken and easily walkable from the city center. A café operates at ground level inside the structure where visitors can rest and have refreshments.
Inside the tower once sat a large reservoir positioned 42 meters above ground, supported by an intricate beam system that was engineered to distribute water without needing extra pumps. This clever design allowed gravity to do most of the work for the entire water supply system.
