Brevik, Manor house in Värmdö Municipality, Sweden
Brevik is a manor house situated on the shores of Breviken bay in Värmdö, extending across a large estate with forests, agricultural land, and several buildings. The property displays Swedish wooden architecture from different periods and is surrounded by natural landscapes.
The estate was first documented in 1543 and acquired by statesman Axel Oxenstierna in 1630, who passed it to his family for generations. In the 20th century it belonged to Stockholm until a financier purchased it in 1988.
The name derives from the adjacent Breviken bay, and visitors can still see the traditional Swedish wooden architecture spanning different periods that shapes the estate. This building style reflects how the region has maintained its craft traditions across generations.
The grounds are quite large and spread out, so visitors should allow plenty of time for exploration and wear sturdy footwear. Its location on Breviken bay makes it a place where you can walk through different landscape types.
Author August Strindberg lived here for eighteen months and left his literary mark on the place during his stay. This period was a formative time in his life and has become part of this location's story.
