Casimirsborg, Empire-style château in Västervik Municipality, Sweden
Casimirsborg is an Empire-style manor with a three-story central block and matching wings positioned on the shores of Gamlebyviken lake. The complex includes the main residence, a chapel, and ancillary buildings that form a complete estate.
The estate received manor privileges around 1618 when Count Johan Casimir Lewenhaupt acquired and unified several farms in the medieval area of Mæm. This elevated the land from farmland to a noble residence.
The chapel shows early examples of Gothic revival architecture in Sweden and reflects the tastes of residents who looked to European estates for inspiration. Visitors can see how the interior design choices reveal the values and connections of those who lived here.
Visitors should arrange visits in advance since the estate remains partly private. The lakeside location provides a pleasant setting for spending time exploring the grounds and surrounding landscape.
The grand reception hall stands as one of the largest private spaces of its kind in the region, demonstrating the scale at which the nobility entertained. The room once hosted important social gatherings and celebrations on the estate.
