Galgberget, Halmstad, Nature area in northern Halmstad, Sweden
Galgberget is a nature area north of Halmstad built on a terminal moraine covered with beech and mixed forests. Walking paths wind through the terrain, connecting various viewpoints and recreational spots throughout the grounds.
The hill served as an execution site during the 17th century, with maps from that era showing the presence of gallows. Later in the 19th century, the purpose shifted and the area was developed for public recreation.
The area includes a museum with authentic buildings moved here from across the Halland region to show how people once lived and worked. Visitors walk between these structures to understand local traditions and daily life from past centuries.
The area offers different routes for various activity levels, from easy walks to more challenging hikes. Some paths are lit in the evening, making it possible to visit at different times of the day.
A wooden observation tower stands at the summit, built in the late 19th century. From its top, visitors can see far across Halmstad and the surrounding countryside.
