Galgberget, Nature reserve in Visby, Sweden
Located north of Visby's inner city, Galgberget nature reserve spans 55 hectares of protected land featuring forested areas and limestone terrain.
The reserve contains a circular stone wall with three pillars from the 13th century that served as a gallows for executing criminals.
Archaeological excavations conducted in July 2008 uncovered remains of 30 individuals at this medieval execution site, providing insights into historical justice practices.
The reserve offers various trails for walking and hiking, including a 3-kilometer loop from Bingeby and multiple paths around the Visby city wall.
The site combines natural limestone vegetation with preserved medieval execution structures, making it one of the few such locations in Europe.
