Gröndalsbron, Concrete bridge in Stockholm, Sweden
The Gröndalsbron consists of two separate bridges connecting Stora Essingen island to the Gröndal district through three concrete frames spanning 460 meters.
The first section of Gröndalsbron opened in 1967 as part of the Essingeleden motorway, while a second bridge for light rail transportation was added in 2000.
The bridges represent Swedish engineering methods from different periods, with the original structure utilizing pre-stressed concrete frames and varying widths from 38 to 45 meters.
The dual-bridge system serves both vehicular traffic on the Essingeleden motorway and passengers using the Tvärbanan light rail line across Lake Töjärv.
The second bridge underwent reinforcement procedures after the discovery of slip cracks, which became a significant news event in Stockholm.
