Fagereds sanatorium, Former sanatorium building in Falkenberg Municipality, Sweden
Fagereds sanatorium is a former medical facility in Falkenberg Municipality situated on a southern wooded slope near the former Lia station. The building displays architectural elements designed by Rudolf Lange from the early 1900s, reflecting the medical construction approach of that period.
The sanatorium was built between 1912 and 1914 by Hallands landsting with roughly 96 beds to treat tuberculosis patients during a widespread health crisis. The facility served this purpose until 1958, after which it was converted for other forms of care.
The name evolved from Obbhults to Fagereds sanatorium and later to Liahemmet, reflecting how the facility's role and management shifted over time. These name changes mark the different purposes the building served in the community.
The site is accessible via its proximity to the former Lia station and the wooded surroundings offer natural pathways through the area. Current use as accommodation means visitors can explore the grounds, but should confirm in advance whether interior access is available.
The archive holds 14 photographs by Chief Physician Victor Steffen documenting medical staff and daily routines of the sanatorium. These images offer a rare visual record of everyday life in an early Swedish tuberculosis treatment center.
