Gråberget, Coastal artillery fort in Gävle Municipality, Sweden
Gråberget is a coastal fort near Gävle on the Baltic Sea in Sweden. The installation includes multiple gun positions strategically positioned to defend the harbor and protect ships approaching the coast.
The fort was developed to protect Sweden's coast during the 20th century, a period when defense systems were constantly upgraded. It served as an active military installation until 1997, when it was decommissioned.
The fort represents Sweden's strategic defense system, as Gävle held the highest concentration of coastal artillery positions among Swedish ports.
Visitors can explore sections of the complex through organized tours offered in connection with a nearby recreational facility. The best time to visit is during the warmer months when guided sessions are actively running.
A minefield codenamed Tobbe remained a hazard in the northern shipping lane long after the fort shut down. It was not fully cleared until 2009, more than a decade after the installation had stopped operating.
