Malmvik, Manor house in Ekerö Municipality, Sweden

Malmvik is a manor estate on Lindö island near Stockholm that spreads across six hectares with around 35 buildings on the grounds. The main house dates back to the 17th century, while a large red economic building from 1937 once served as a granary and mill.

The original wooden main building was constructed in 1633 by Erik von der Linde and later expanded by his son Lorentz. The estate grew over the centuries into an important property with ties to notable families like the Wallenbergs.

The Wallenberg family left a lasting mark on this place: a mausoleum built in 1912 south of Ekerövägen holds the remains of notable family members including André Oscar Wallenberg. This burial site shows how important the family was to the region.

The estate sits on an island and is best reached by car or on foot if you take the ferry. Plan enough time to walk through the grounds and see the various buildings scattered across the property.

Two lime trees were planted in 1618 by Erik Larsson and gave the island its name Lindö, derived from the Swedish word for linden. One of these original trees survived and stood for centuries until it fell in 1999.
