Sandgrund

Sandgrund is an art museum in Karlstad housed in a converted building along the Klarälven River. The spaces display watercolor paintings and contemporary artworks across multiple exhibition areas.

The building served as a dance venue during the 1970s, drawing visitors from Sweden and Norway. It was later transformed into an art gallery focused on visual artists and has remained so since.

The space displays works by artist Lars Lerin alongside rotating exhibitions of contemporary artists. Visitors come here to experience Nordic watercolor painting and discover new artistic voices.

The museum is easily walkable from the city center and opens Tuesday through Sunday. Parking spaces are available near the entrance for convenient vehicle access.

The building retains design elements from its former life as a dance venue, creating an interesting contrast with the art on display. This blend of old structures and contemporary art programming gives the space a distinctive character.
