Risinge gamla kyrka, Medieval church in Finspång Municipality, Sweden.
Risinge gamla kyrka is a rectangular stone building in Finspång with gray stone walls and brick components, topped by gabled roofs covered in tarred wooden shingles. The structure stands surrounded by a medieval stone wall that encloses the surrounding cemetery grounds.
The church was built in the latter half of the 1100s as a parish church for the region. During the 1300s it received vaulted ceilings, and it stopped serving as an active place of worship in 1849 when a new church was built nearby.
The interior walls display medieval frescoes from the early 1400s created by an unknown artist known as Risingemästaren, depicting biblical narratives through religious imagery. These paintings once helped communicate stories to visitors who could not read.
The building stands about 3 kilometers east of Finspång, making it accessible by foot or car along local routes. Visitors should check ahead as opening times may be limited and access is not guaranteed on all days.
The northern wall holds a mysterious red painting from the 1200s titled 'Ryttaren med jaktfalken' that has never been painted over. This ancient image of a rider with a hunting falcon remains one of the oldest decorative elements visible in the building.
