Sollefteå Garrison

Sollefteå Garrison is a military complex in Västernorrland comprising several interconnected buildings near the Ångermanälven River. The site contains residential, administrative, and service buildings constructed according to late 19th-century military standards.

The garrison was established in 1897 and developed into a central military facility housing logistics and infantry regiments. This installation transformed Sollefteå from a small settlement into a significant military center in the region.

The garrison demonstrates Swedish military architecture from the late 19th century, with functional buildings that shaped how the local community developed and organized itself.

The complex is laid out along forest edges and open spaces, providing clear pathways between buildings. Visitors find good orientation since the site is logically organized and buildings are clearly marked.

An 1889 pharmacy building now operates as a library and museum, preserving local military and architectural history. This repurposed structure shows how historical buildings adapt to new purposes while documenting their past.
