Smalspårsjärnvägen Växjö–Västervik, Heritage railway in Hultsfred Municipality, Sweden.
Smalspårsjärnvägen is a narrow-gauge railway that runs roughly 70 kilometers through forests, farmland, and small settlements connecting Hultsfred and Västervik in eastern Småland. The line features dozens of small stations positioned throughout the journey and passes several lakes along its route.
The line opened in 1879 and served as a vital transport link for over a century connecting the region's communities and industries. After passenger services ended in 1984, railway enthusiasts revived it as a heritage railway operating vintage trains for visitors.
This railway keeps alive the memory of regional transportation through its operation and the way communities along the route remain connected to train travel. Visitors can experience how this narrow-gauge system once bound together small towns and villages across the landscape.
The stations at Hultsfred and Västervik have parking available, making it easy to arrive by car for your journey. Tickets can be purchased at either station or onboard the train, and light refreshments are available during the ride.
The original railbuses operating on the line date from the 1950s and create a genuine experience of traveling as passengers did decades ago. These vehicles are rare surviving examples of Swedish railway engineering from that era.
