Toftaholm, Burg in Schweden
Toftaholm is a large wooden building completed in 1871 located in Småland, Sweden, beside Lake Vidöstern. The main house is flanked by two older side wings and contains 44 rooms, each with its own bathroom and individual decor.
The estate was founded in 1389 by Jöns Skötta and became the largest in the Småland region. The original fortress Toftaborg was completed in 1460 and played a role in conflicts between Sweden and Denmark, before being destroyed by fire in the 1800s.
The name Toftaholm comes from "Tofta," an old term from 1387 when this was a local farm. The estate remained a center of noble life for centuries and shaped how people in this region understood hierarchy, land, and family legacy.
The estate sits close to highway E4 for easy access and has spacious parking with electric car charging stations. Visitors can enjoy biking, boating, and canoeing on the lake, with equipment provided on-site.
An old inn called Den Gyllene Abborren from 1640 still stands on the grounds with original wooden floors and large fireplaces. Underground rooms beneath the building hold old paintings and recall the times when travelers sought shelter here.
