Tistlarna lighthouse, Maritime lighthouse in Gothenburg Municipality, Sweden
Tistlarna is a lighthouse built from white clinker brick standing on the western Swedish coast near Gothenburg. The station includes the tower itself alongside a residential building that served keepers who once lived there to maintain the light.
The lighthouse began operations in 1906, initially lit by kerosene lamps to guide ships through the waters. Power changed to electricity decades later, reflecting the technological shifts that transformed coastal navigation.
The lighthouse stands as a testament to Swedish maritime traditions and continues to guide vessels through the western coastal waters.
The lighthouse sits on a rocky point that you can reach on foot from the shore. Visit during clear weather when you can see across the water to appreciate the coastal setting and the structure itself.
The structure incorporates a second order Fresnel lens system and underwent automation in 1970 to enhance its operational capabilities.
