Tyskmagasinen, Historic warehouse in Karlshäll, Luleå, Sweden.
Tyskmagasinen were two large red wooden warehouses beside the water in Karlshall. The buildings served for decades as storage space for goods and equipment before they were destroyed.
The warehouses were built in 1912 as part of Sweden's first wood pulp mill. During World War II they stored German supply goods intended for troops in Norway and Finland.
The buildings served as a transit point for 25,000 Russian prisoners of war in 1945 as they returned from Norway to the Soviet Union.
The site sits by the water and is reachable from land, with level surroundings that are easy to visit. The best time to visit is during daylight when the surroundings are visible and easy to navigate.
A fire in June 2016 destroyed both buildings completely and wiped out a large stock of historic railway equipment stored inside. This loss removed a significant testament to the region's industrial and transport heritage.
