St. George's Parish Church

St. George's Parish Church is a Renaissance church standing on a hill above Piran with a bell tower modeled after St. Mark's Campanile in Venice. The building contains artworks from the Renaissance period and was constructed using Venetian stonemasonry techniques.

Construction of the current structure began in 1592 and was completed in 1614, replacing an earlier church from the 12th century. This rebuilding shows how Piran renewed its religious buildings during the Renaissance period.

The church displays craftsmanship brought from Venice through decorative stonework that shapes how the space looks. This artistic touch shows the lasting connection between Piran and Italian trading cities that once dominated the region.
