Tartini Square, Central square in Piran, Slovenia

Tartini Square is a large marble-paved public space in central Piran surrounded by Venetian Gothic buildings. An elliptical white stone platform dominates the center, creating a distinct visual focal point within the square.

The site originated as an inner harbor for fishing boats during medieval times before being transformed into a public square in 1894. The change came about when authorities filled in the harbor basin, completely reshaping the space.

The square bears the name of Giuseppe Tartini, a violinist born here who left a lasting mark on the town through his musical legacy. His bronze statue in the center serves as a reminder of this connection and draws music enthusiasts.

Private vehicles are not permitted in this area, so it is best to park at facilities outside the town center. Minibus services regularly transport visitors from these parking areas to the square without additional cost.

The modern elliptical stone platform in the center was designed by renowned architect Boris Podrecca and stands in striking contrast to the historic buildings surrounding it. This design element is often overlooked by visitors, yet it shapes much of the square's current character.
