Cerkev svete Uršule, Jazbina

The Church of Saint Ursula sits at 1678 meters (5505 feet) near the peak of Uršlja Mountain in Črna na Koroškem Municipality. It is built from stone and covered with wooden shingles to withstand the harsh mountain weather.

Construction began in the 1570s, and the first bell was installed in 1584. Bishop Tomaž Hren completed the building in 1609, establishing a permanent place of worship on this isolated peak.

Inside, five stone altars shape how the space feels, each one reflecting different periods of worship and devotion. They mark the spiritual journey of those who have gathered here over centuries.

This site is accessible only on foot, so sturdy shoes and weather-appropriate clothing are essential. The season strongly affects both accessibility and the condition of the paths leading to the church.

It ranks as the highest church in Slovenia and was built at this extreme location to serve pilgrims and herders. The fact that this building stands in such a remote place shows how deeply religious commitment ran in the communities of that era.
