Marezige, Village in Koper, Slovenia
Marezige is a hilltop village in the Koper municipality, located on the Slovenian coast in the Istria region. It sits surrounded by vineyards and olive groves that cover the slopes and open land around it.
The village was given municipal status in 1898 as part of the Austrian province of Istria, when three separate administrative areas were brought together under one structure. That reorganization set the foundation for the settlement as it exists today.
Marezige is known for wine production, and varieties like Refosco and Malvasia grow on the terraced fields around the village. Walking through the area, you notice how farming still shapes the rhythm of daily life here.
The village is best visited in the warmer months, when the paths through the hills and vineyards are easy to walk. A useful landmark in the settlement is the wine fountain, a self-service station where visitors can try local wines.
Marezige is home to the first wine fountain in Slovenia, open around the clock and offering wines from the Vinakoper cooperative. This setup makes the small village a known stop for wine tourism across the whole country.
