Podvin Castle

Podvin Castle is a Renaissance mansion in Mošnje situated at an elevation of 453 meters and distinguished by a tower structure and balconies. The grounds include formal gardens and an ancient oak tree that is over 400 years old.

The castle originated in the 14th century under the Counts of Podvin before passing to the Counts of Lamberg, Wagen, and later to the Polignac family. In the 20th century it became a setting for momentous events in Slovenia's modern development.

The mansion played a role in Slovenia's recent history and remains a place of national significance. Today it stands as protected cultural heritage, marking an important chapter in the country's journey.

The building is currently unoccupied and not regularly open to visitors, so advance inquiry about access is advisable. Its hilltop location offers views over the surrounding landscape, though a car is the most practical way to reach it.

Adjacent to the castle stands a Michelin-recognized restaurant that serves modern interpretations of traditional Slovenian cuisine. This gastronomic addition transforms a visit into a complete experience infused with local flavors.
