Prem Castle

Prem Castle sits on a hilltop with cylindrical towers and Renaissance arcades framing a central courtyard featuring a small stone well. The layout combines defensive elements with residential spaces arranged around this open courtyard.

The castle was first documented around 1220 and functioned as a regional administrative hub throughout the Middle Ages. Ownership passed through powerful families over time, with the Habsburgs maintaining control during the later period.

The chapel interior features carved stone masks reflecting skilled medieval craftsmanship, while the main hall displays painted designs that reveal the refined tastes of its former residents. These decorative elements show how the castle inhabitants expressed their status and cultural refinement through architectural details.

Local folklore tells of a hidden underground passage supposedly connecting this castle to Turn Mansion beneath the Reka riverbed nearby. This claimed tunnel has never been scientifically explored or confirmed to exist.
