Nové Zámky, a town of 36,781 residents, sits at an elevation of 114 meters in southwestern Slovakia within the Nitra Region.
The town originated in 1573 with the construction of a modern fortress designed to protect against Ottoman Empire invasions until its capture in 1663.
The Ernest Zmeták Art Gallery exhibits European art collections spanning from the 16th to 20th centuries, representing multiple artistic movements and periods.
The Franciscan church and monastery, dating from the mid-17th century, stands as an example of early baroque architecture in the town center.
The Orthodox synagogue from 1880 maintains its status as one of the few religious structures in Slovakia that continues regular worship services.
