Čierna hora, Mountain summit in Kežmarok District, Slovakia
Čierna hora is a mountain summit reaching 1,289 meters (4,229 feet) and stands as the highest peak of the Levoča Mountains in northeastern Slovakia. Dense coniferous forest covers the slopes and several ridges surround the mountain.
The mountain area once served as a military training ground called Javorina before being decommissioned. Partially preserved military roads remain scattered across the terrain, marking this earlier use.
The name means Black Mountain, referring to the dark rock formations and thick forests that cover the slopes. These features make it a notable landmark in the regional landscape.
Multiple hiking paths ascend to the summit from the villages of Ihľany, Kolačkov, and Nižné Ružbachy, with climbs taking around four to five hours. Choosing a trailhead depends on which village is most convenient to your starting point.
Several streams originate from the northern, southern, and eastern slopes and supply water to the surrounding valleys. These water sources are important to the local hydrological system.
