Suchá Belá, Natural gorge in Slovak Paradise National Park, Slovakia
Suchá Belá is a limestone gorge in Slovak Paradise National Park with several waterfalls including Misové, Okienkový, Korytový, and Bočný. These are connected by metal ladders and wooden platforms positioned along a roughly 3.7-kilometer path.
Martin Róth first explored the area to the Misové waterfall in 1900, which led to the development of a marked hiking trail through the gorge in 1908. These early explorations established the foundation for today's access to the gorge.
The name comes from how the stream behaves, disappearing regularly into the gravel bedrock before joining the larger Veľká Biela voda watercourse. Visitors can observe these geological features directly while walking through the gorge.
The trail starts at the Podlesok tourist center and follows a one-way route with about 420 meters of elevation gain, typically taking two hours in normal conditions. Wear good footwear with grip, as wet conditions can make the path slippery.
In certain sections, hikers must navigate through a dense network of metal ladders, chains, and wooden steps installed right above the flowing water. This intensive climbing system makes the passage a memorable physical experience.
