Arboretum Mlynany

Arboretum Mlynany is a large botanical collection featuring trees and plants from around the world, with distinct sections dedicated to different geographic origins and climate zones. Each area is clearly organized, allowing visitors to move through distinct plant communities from different continents.

The site was founded in the late 1800s to collect and study plants from other parts of the world. Over more than a century, it became an important research center for introducing non-native tree species to Central Europe.

The name comes from a former landowner whose estate was transformed into a botanical research center. Visitors can observe how plants from different climates are cultivated side by side in organized collections.

It is best to allow time for a leisurely walk through multiple sections and wear comfortable shoes, as paths cross the grounds in various directions. Sturdy footwear and patience are helpful for exploring the different plant zones thoroughly.

Scientists conducted experiments with plants brought back from expeditions to China that had never grown in the region before. These botanical discoveries contributed to how European gardening and plant cultivation developed over time.
