The arboretum extends across 67 hectares of land, containing over 2000 different species of trees and plants from various geographic regions.

Dr. Štefan Ambrózy-Migazzi established the arboretum in 1892, starting with a 40-hectare evergreen park that marked the first large-scale planting in Central Europe.

The Slovak Academy of Sciences manages this research center, which maintains the largest collection of non-native woody plants in Slovakia.

The site includes designated areas for East Asian flora spanning 14 hectares, North American flora covering 7.5 hectares, and Korean flora occupying 5.5 hectares.

Scientists conducted the first tree introductions to former Czechoslovakia at this location, including specimens from a 1960 expedition to China.
