Zborov Castle, Medieval castle ruins in Bardejov District, Slovakia.
Stone fortification standing on a hill presents Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque architectural elements with preserved walls and defensive structures.
Built around 1270 by Otto Biberstein, the castle protected trade routes between the Kingdom of Hungary and Poland until imperial forces destroyed it in 1684.
The castle bears the name Makovica in local traditions and represents a significant part of the National Cultural Heritage of Slovakia.
Visitors can reach the castle through a marked path from Zborov village, with the ascent taking approximately 30 minutes on foot.
Local folklore tells that the castle stones moved to their current location during construction, determining the final position of the fortress.
