Zoo de Spišská Nová Ves, Animal park in Spišská Nová Ves, Slovakia.
Spišská Nová Ves Zoo is an 8-hectare facility in the southeastern part of town with varied habitats and animal enclosures. The site includes a creek, wooded sections, and a lake system that creates natural environments for the animals.
The zoo was founded in 1989 as one of Slovakia's newer zoological institutions. It was created with a focus on wildlife preservation and providing educational experiences.
The zoo serves as a learning space where visitors of all ages encounter animals and nature up close. Local families and school groups visit regularly to develop a connection with wildlife and understand animal behavior.
The main zoo area is currently closed for renovations until April 2025, though the Aquaterra pavilion remains open daily from 9 to 16 o'clock except Mondays. Plan your visit after the renovation work is complete to experience the full site.
The site contains over 30 tree species in its arboretum and supports natural duck populations in its lake system. This combination creates different microclimates that shelter various animal species.
